Proverbs 5: Faithful Eyes, Undivided Heart, and the Call to #NoPhoneSunday
By Penny
Saturday is preparation day. Tomorrow is #NoPhoneSunday, another opportunity to LOOK UP, BE PRESENT, AND BE HUMAN AGAIN!
What has your attention right now?
What do you reach for when you are standing in line, walking down the street, waiting for an appointment, or sitting across from someone you love?
The phone may be in your hand. But is your heart somewhere else?
Proverbs 5: The Seductive Stranger of the Notification Feed
Proverbs 5 warns us about the seductive stranger, something that looks attractive, speaks smoothly, and promises pleasure, but ends in bitterness.
“For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.”
— Proverbs 5:3–4 (KJV)
In our generation, the notification feed can function like a seductive stranger.
It offers endless sweetness:
- One more message.
- One more video.
- One more update.
- One more opinion.
- One more stranger’s life to examine.
- One more reason to postpone the real moment in front of you.
But what is the end?
Distraction. Comparison. Anxiety. Lost time. Weakened relationships. Dullness toward God. A divided heart.
The feed is not inherently evil. Your phone is a tool. But any tool that consistently commands your attention has begun to compete for your worship.
WHAT HAS YOUR EYES?
The Problem: PHONE-A-PHANT Living
A PHONE-A-PHANT is physically present, mentally absent, and reflexively reaching for the screen like an elephant’s trunk.
You may recognize the behavior:
- Looking down while walking.
- Checking your phone while standing in line.
- Reaching for the screen while someone is speaking.
- Sitting with family while mentally living inside another conversation.
- Interrupting silence before you can hear your own thoughts.
- Missing a person, opportunity, or intersecting thought because a notification appeared.
You are there, but you are not there.
Proverbs 5:8 says:
“Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:”
— Proverbs 5:8 (KJV)
Applied to phone addiction, this means do not negotiate with every temptation.
If the phone is pulling you away from presence, do not merely promise yourself that you will resist it while carrying it into the room.
DON’T EVEN CARRY THE PHONE INTO THE ROOM.
Leave it in the car. Leave it at home. Put it in a drawer. Create distance before the reflex begins.

The Faithfulness Protocol for Tomorrow
Do not begin with shame. Begin with a measurable act of obedience.
1. START SMALL
Tomorrow, begin at 2:30 PM.
Place your phone somewhere inconvenient and safe. Leave it at home or in the car when practical. If you need your phone for safety, caregiving, work, navigation, or an emergency, use wisdom.
This is not a performance contest. It is an attention reset.
START SMALL. BUILD STRONG.
2. LOOK UP
When your hand reaches for the phone, stop.
Look up.
See the sky. See the room. See the people. See the life God has placed directly in front of you.
LOOK UP.
BE PRESENT.
BE HUMAN AGAIN.
Pay attention in the checkout line. Pay attention while walking. Pay attention at the table. Pay attention when someone tells you a story you have heard before.
Presence is not passive. Presence is love expressed through attention.
3. DRINK FROM YOUR OWN CISTERN
Proverbs 5 says:
“Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.”
“Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.”
— Proverbs 5:15, 18 (KJV)
For married readers, this is a call to covenant faithfulness and delight in your spouse. For every believer, it also gives us a picture of receiving the life God has actually entrusted to us instead of endlessly scrolling through the lives of strangers.
Be satisfied with the people in your home.
Be present with your children.
Listen to your friends.
Enjoy your church family.
Care for your body.
Return to your calling.
Do not spend all your attention watching other people live while neglecting the assignment in your own hands.
The Umbrella Protocol and the Intersecting Thought
What if the moment you put down the phone creates room for prayerful attentiveness before God?
In this ministry’s faith-based devotional perspective, hearing God’s voice may sometimes be described as an intersecting thought, a thought that seems to cross your normal thinking with unusual clarity. But impressions are not automatically divine, infallible, or beyond question.
You may suddenly think:
- “Check on that person.”
- “Bring an umbrella.”
- “Wait here a moment.”
- “Call your brother.”
- “Pray for the person beside you.”
- “Do not rush past this conversation.”
The Umbrella Protocol is a simple devotional practice:
HEAR. TEST. OBEY.
Imagine walking outside beneath a bright sky when a thought comes: “Take the umbrella.”
It does not seem necessary. You take it anyway. Minutes later, rain begins.
That small act may prepare you for a need you could not yet see.

Test impressions against Scripture, wisdom, circumstances, and trusted counsel.
Thoughts that lead toward harm, confusion, condemnation, or destruction should be treated cautiously and discussed with trusted counsel. Thoughts that align with biblical truth and the Fruits of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, may be worth prayerful consideration.
Hebrews 4:12 teaches that the Word of God discerns “the thoughts and intents of the heart.” It helps believers weigh motives, desires, and impressions carefully before acting.
THE PHONE CAN DROWN OUT THE VERY IMPRESSION YOU NEEDED TO SLOW DOWN AND TEST.
Presence Is Part of Sonship
All ministry flows from HSMS, Loving God Back.
Before you function as King, Priest, Prophet, or Apostle, you receive the Father’s love. Before you lead others, you learn to remain with Jesus. Before you call people upward, you become present to the One who called you.
Through Jesus, the Gate and the Way, we are welcomed into relationship with the Father. Jesus is at the Father’s right hand, equal in authority, and believers are seated with Christ in heavenly places.
This is not an orphan posture of frantic striving. It is a sonship posture of secure attention.
You do not have to earn the Father’s love by being constantly productive. You do not have to prove your value through endless availability. You can slow down, listen, receive, and obey.
Then your ministry flows from relationship instead of exhaustion.
SEE ONE. DO ONE. TEACH ONE.
Practice this tomorrow:
- SEE ONE: Look directly at one person without reaching for your phone.
- DO ONE: Offer one act of kindness, patience, or undivided attention.
- TEACH ONE: Invite a family member or friend to practice #NoPhoneSunday with you.
SEE ONE. DO ONE. TEACH ONE.

Declaration for Faithful Eyes
Declare this aloud:
I AM NOT A PHONE-A-PHANT.
MY PHONE IS A TOOL, NOT MY LORD.
I WILL LOOK UP.
I WILL NOTICE PEOPLE.
I WILL LISTEN FOR GOD’S VOICE.
I WILL REFUSE TO TRADE ETERNAL VISION FOR TEMPORARY NOTIFICATIONS.
I AM PRESENT, LOVED, AND READY TO OBEY.
Proverbs 5:21 reminds us:
“For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.”
— Proverbs 5:21 (KJV)
God sees where your attention goes.
Verse 22 says:
“His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.”
— Proverbs 5:22 (KJV)
Phone addiction can become a cord, one small check, one small scroll, one small interruption at a time.
But Jesus brings freedom. The cord can be broken. Attention can be retrained. Presence can be restored.
The Decision of Salvation
Jesus invites every person to respond to Him with honesty, faith, and repentance. This is a clear, pastoral invitation because your soul matters deeply to God.
“Would you like to ask Jesus into your heart right now? Yes? Or no?”
If your answer is yes, pray:
Standard Prayer of Salvation
Father God, I come to You in the name of Jesus Christ. I confess that I have sinned and need a Savior. I believe Jesus is Your Son, that He died for [your name] sins, was buried, and rose again. I repent of my sins and ask Jesus to come into my heart and be Lord of my life. I receive Your forgiveness and salvation by faith. Thank You that [your name] is now Your child. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
We believe Christians understand the relationship between conversion and baptism in the Holy Spirit in different ways. We encourage every believer to seek and welcome the Holy Spirit’s presence and power, while testing all teaching against Scripture and receiving pastoral guidance. The Holy Spirit leads, empowers, cleanses, and transforms believers.
From Vision to Purpose
Melchizedek Ministries seeks to encourage reflection on identity and purpose through a faith-based framework.
The implementation is presented in two steps:
Step 1: Birth Sky Message. Christological Astronomy and the Maji methodology are offered as optional interpretive ministry perspectives, not scientifically verified or guaranteed ways to discover divine identity, destiny, or assignment.
Step 2: Ramp up ministry. Give permission and encouragement to move into ministry through development that is FOUND, FUNDED with endowments, STAFFED with volunteers, SUPPORTED by intercessors, THRIVE, CALL OTHERS UP, and FUNCTION IN THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK.
Habakkuk 2:2 says to write the vision and make it plain.

Tomorrow is #NoPhoneSunday.
At 2:30 PM, begin small.
Put the phone away. Leave it at home or in the car when practical. Look at the person in front of you. Walk without scrolling. Sit at the table. Pray in the quiet. Make room to notice and test impressions with Scripture, wisdom, circumstances, and trusted counsel.
Do not let the notification feed become today’s seductive stranger.
LOOK UP. BE PRESENT. BE HUMAN AGAIN!
SEE ONE. DO ONE. TEACH ONE.
